The Bagel Baker of Mulliner Lane
Published in School & Library Binding by McGraw-Hill (September, 1976)
Average review score:

The Bagel Baker is the best! When I was a child, my parents read this book to my sister and I often. Now, that I am a teacher I continue to find this book rewarding for myself and my students. The story captures a magical feeling of family, culture, tradition, holidays, and bagels! I wish someday to buy this book for my own children. IT's a shame that a book that use to be ... is now out of print and costing ...! This book is fabulous and creative and everyone should read it to their children.
Magic-agel Bagels Should Still Be In PrintThe setting is Mulliner Lane, "in a place New Yorkers still call the Bronx," at Grandpa Izzy's bagel bakery. Grandpa Izzy has to sleep with one eye open and one eye shut to keep an eye on his dancing duck-agel bagels and pirouetting pig-agel bagels. Grandma Sonny worries about Izzy's strange behavior, but he reassures her, "It's magic, Sonny." The only bigger mystery than Grandpa Izzy's crazy bagels is how this book ever went out of print...it was my favorite picture book when I was a kid, and went over just as well when I read it to my first-grade Sunday morning Hebrew school class twenty years later. It's well worth the search for a copy -- I promise, your kids will love it.

Beautiful Ribbons
Published in Hardcover by Running Press (March, 1999)
Average review score:

Beautiful BookJust like all Running Press books, it is full of beautiful photography. It features the possible ways of using ribbons to decorate your home, to add touches to festive occasions, or to use with flowers. Not every idea is provided with instructions, although some include step-by-step illustration. However, where instructions are missing, there is clear description of the idea.
In the book, ribbons are used to decorate bed linen, blankets, curtains, tiebacks, bolsters, lampshades, photo frames, tablecloths, chairs, gifts, wreaths, flowers, and more. There is also a section on the types of ribbon, and another one on tying bows. At the end you will find a list of suppliers in the USA.
I liked the book very much and enjoyed flipping through the colorful pages. I tried some of the ideas - tying napkins decoratively with ribbons, decorating greeting cards with small bows, sewing ribbons on mats and tablecloths. I have to say I am very happy with the result and planning to use more ideas in the near future.
Great ideas for your home and special occassionsThis book is a little gem! It's full of great, simple, low-cost ideas that are still stylish and sophisticated. I'm not a great fan of long crafts projects, and this book fits my needs, as most projects can be completed in an hour or two and require minimal sewing. In addition to ideas for the home, this book offers great suggestions for effectively using ribbons in entertaining. I liked several of the ideas so much that I plan on incorporating them into my upcoming wedding! The last portion of the book gives clear, easy-to-follow instructions on how to make the bows and ribbon roses illustrated in the book. The bottom line: if you're looking for quick, easy, inexpensive ways to dress up your home, dinner table, or flower arrangements, this is a book you won't want to be without.

The Best Birthday Parties Ever!: A Kid's Do-It-Yourself Guide
Published in Unknown Binding by Ipicturebooks.Com (E) (July, 1999)
Average review score:

Very cute bookI thought that this book was great. We checked it out from the library and my six year old son has chosen the teddy bear party. He was not too thrilled with the bowls of porage cakes, but all the other ideas are great and really get the kids involved.

Great Book! This is a great book. I only got it yesterday, but it has lots of wonderful ideas. Although this is really a kids do it yourself book, it can also be used by parents, or party planners like myself. It has a pile of themes, and each one includes invitations party hats, crafts decoration, favor and games. Most of the party hats, favors and games are those you can make from paper and other things around the house. Most of the crafts can be used as games, and many can also be used as favors. I always like Kathy Ross's books, but this one was GREAT!

Excellent! A must-have for a birding trip to Florida! We used this book as our itinerary planner for a recent 8 day trip to South Florida. We found the detailed directions to be so helpful to us in finding our target birds!
Superb!Excellent guide to the birding sites of Florida, especially to those birders chasing local "specialties".

A Birder's Guide to Southeastern Arizona (Lane/Aba Birdfinding Guide #102)

A birder's guide to southeastern arizonaTaylor's updated version is an essential tool for anyone who is not familiar with s.e. arizona, and extremely helpful for those who are. It contains detailed descriptions of birding areas, maps, species to expect at different times of the year, and more. Rick takes you right to the hard-to-find Arizona specialties, as well as all the rest, and does it in an enjoyable manner. This book is fun to read even after leaving Arizona. You will not be disappointed with this one!
Where, what and when. THE book for birding SE Arizona! This is a great resource for planning and executing a birding expedition to southeast Arizona. Excellent maps, detailed species accounts, and helpful directions and resource listings. This book tells you what specialties to look for at specific locations and when they are most likely to be found there. A great guide for birding southeast Arizona, from roadside birding to backcountry hiking. I especially appreciate the tear out maps of trails and inside cover maps of locations and ecoregions.

A Birder's Guide to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas (Lane ABA Birdfinding Guides Ser #414
Published in Paperback by American Birding Association Sales (January, 1992)
Average review score:

Excellent guideHolt's book is very helpful for birding Texas, especially when used in conjunction with other books. Unfortunately, lodging is only briefly mentioned, so you must use other resources to plan your trip. The maps are excellent and there is a checklist in the back with bird species, locations, abundance, and months present. There is also a listing of species with details on specialties (e.g. Elegant trogon- A rare visitor, with three records at Big Bend and a smattering of records for the Lower Valley. The most recent sighting was in late January 1990.) This book covers the RGV from Brownsville to El Paso, including the Guadalupe Mountains, Davis Mountains, and Edwards Plateau. The format is different from some other ABA books, for instance there is not a separate column listing expected sightings for each area.
new publication - 1998 or 1999I am looking for a place to buy the new publication. The new author might be Mark Lockwood. Publisher is same - American Birding Association

Black Butterflies: Secrets of the Past
Published in Paperback by Hubbard Small Press Publications (June, 1999)
Average review score:

A Real Page TurnerThis was an excellent read. I was drawn to the characters and found myself having trouble putting this book down. Great job! The message the author gave was terrific. We should take the time out to listen to our children instead of being to caught up in our own problems. My book club will have this book featured as it's book of the month.
I laughed, I cried, I sighed!Black Butterflies, Secrets of the past is a great book! Good job Vicki! I loved it! Even my husband, who never reads anything but computer books, is reading it. When will people learn that we must not only talk to our children, but listen to them too. Again great job Vicki!. I also read Chocolate Burnout and can't wait for the sequel, Chocolate Burnout: The Road to Freedom to come out.

Cast A Long Shadow
Published in CD-ROM by Daylight Dreams (June, 2000)
Average review score:

An enticing blend of humor and romanceHolly Lane's first effort in the field of historical romance rewards the reader with a seductive combination of humor and romance that brings her characters to life and leaves us wanting more. The hero is awkward, endearing, treating the heroine with heart-breaking tenderness. Ms. Lane's heroine can fight her own battles, win her own wars, but needs the loving commitment of a man who believes in her to help her believe in herself. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but most of all, you'll want to read more by this upcoming new author.
I couldn't put it down!I really enjoyed Ms. Lane's book. The plot flowed with humor and realism. The characters interacted well with each other and the writng was such that the plot, conversations, and situations were believable. I am looking forward to reading future books by this exciting new find. She has made my "buy it" list.
